Glossary of Terms

Acupressure
Acupressure is a needle-less technique in which physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points to increase the flow of blood and qi (pronounced “chee”) while addressing energetic stagnation. It is sometimes used instead of acupuncture for highly sensitive individuals.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world, originating in China more than 2,000 years ago. It consists of inserting fine needles into the body at precise points to treat specific health issues. More...

Cupping
Cupping is an ancient therapeutic technique that uses negative force to stimulate the flow of blood and qi to an affected area. It is often used to relieve muscle pain and inflammation, especially back pain from stiffness or injury. It is also used to clear chest congestion that can occur with colds and flu. More...

Electro-Acupuncture
Electro-acupuncture uses the combination of acupuncture and continuous or mixed electric pulses to provide powerful relief for a variety of pain conditions, especially for musculoskeletal pain. It has also been used to speed the healing of breaks and fractures.

Gua Sha
Like cupping, Gua Sha is used to address musculoskeletal pain as well as the symptoms of the common cold, flu, bronchitis, or asthma. During Gua Sha, the skin is rubbed briskly with a special tool to improve circulation and remove energetic stagnation. More...

Moxa/Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a form of Chinese medical heat therapy that uses a common herb known as mugwort. The mugwort, or moxa, is burned near the skin to bring warmth to specific points. As the moxa is burned, the heat penetrates deeply to induce a smooth flow of energy (or "qi", pronounced "chee") while relaxing and rejuvenating the body from within. More...
